March Fitness Tips: Stay on Track and Spring into Action at the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center

Last Updated 4/2/2025

As we move into March, it's the perfect time to refresh our fitness routines and embrace new goals. Whether you're kickstarting your workout journey or maintaining consistency, these monthly fitness tips from the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center will help keep you motivated and moving forward.

Staying Motivated

If your New Year’s fitness resolutions have fallen by the wayside, don’t worry—March is a great time to refocus! Building a routine takes time, but these simple steps can help:

  • First Steps: Just showing up is half the battle! Put on your shoes and take that first step.

  • Change Up Your Routine: Avoid workout monotony by incorporating a variety of exercises to challenge your body and mind.

  • Rest & Recovery: Listen to your body and allow at least two rest days each week to prevent burnout.

  • No Pressure: Adjust the intensity of your workouts based on how you feel each day.

Spring Cleaning Your Workout Gear

Spring is a season of renewal, so why not freshen up your fitness gear?

  • Check your workout shoes—worn-out footwear can cause discomfort or injury.

  • Update your activewear with new, comfortable pieces.

  • Replace outdated or non-functional fitness equipment.

  • Refresh your playlist with new workout tunes for extra motivation.

  • Clean out your gym bag—sanitize your gear and replace anything that needs an upgrade!

Don’t Skip the Warm-Up

Warming up is essential for a safe and effective workout. A proper warm-up:

  • Increases blood flow to muscles, improving performance.

  • Enhances flexibility and range of motion.

  • Reduces the risk of injury.

  • Should last 5-10 minutes, targeting the muscles you’ll be using.

Make the Most of Treadmill Workouts

March can still bring chilly weather, making treadmill workouts a great indoor alternative. Here’s how to get the most out of your treadmill sessions:

  • Know Your Machine: Familiarize yourself with the console and controls.

  • Start Slow: Ease into your pace and gradually increase speed or incline.

  • Avoid Handrails: Unless needed for balance, avoid holding on to ensure proper form.

  • Maintain Good Posture: Keep your back neutral, shoulders relaxed, and eyes forward.

  • Challenge Yourself: Use different speeds and inclines to vary your routine.

Cardio or Weights First?

A common fitness question—should you start with cardio or weights? The answer depends on your goals:

  • If your goal is cardiovascular endurance, start with cardio to maximize energy for heart-pumping workouts.

  • If strength is your priority, begin with weight training to lift at peak energy levels.

  • No matter what you choose, consistency is key. Stay committed to moving and making progress!
