Sunny Days & Stronger Ways: June Fitness Tips from the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center

Last Updated 12/17/2025

Summer is here, and with longer days and vacation plans on the calendar, it’s the perfect time to stay active while enjoying the season. At the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center, we’re committed to helping you stay on track with your wellness goals—even when you're on the go. Check out these June Fitness Tips designed to keep you moving and feeling your best.

Traveling Workouts

Vacations are for fun—but that doesn’t mean your fitness routine has to take one too!

  • Pack workout clothes, shoes, resistance bands, or a jump rope.

  • Take advantage of your hotel gym or find a local fitness center.

  • Explore new destinations on foot—walk to restaurants, shops, or nearby parks.

  • Use fitness apps or stream workout videos for a quick hotel room session.

Go for a Hike

Take advantage of the beautiful pre-summer weather and hit the trails. Local greenways, state parks, and national parks offer hiking paths for all skill levels. Not only is hiking a great cardio workout, it’s also a chance to unwind in nature.

Veggies on the Grill

Grill season isn’t just for meat! Add flavor and nutrients with grilled vegetables.

  • Wash, trim, and slice vegetables for even cooking.

  • Use medium to medium-high heat and brush with oil to prevent sticking.

  • Try grilling in foil packets, skewers, or baskets for better control and delicious results.

Try Container Gardening

No yard? No problem. Grow your own herbs or veggies in pots!

  • Choose the right size container based on the plant.

  • Use potting mix made for container gardening.

  • Place pots where they’ll get the right amount of sunlight and are easy to water.

  • Water more frequently and support larger plants with stakes or trellises.

Don’t Skip Your Rest Between Sets

When weight training, rest is just as important as the reps.

For beginners, taking 1–2 minutes between sets allows muscles to recover and rebuild, improving your results. Too little rest can lead to fatigue and poor form, while too much can decrease workout efficiency. Time your breaks and stay consistent for better strength gains.
